Geographic Feature Name Generator

While looking around for a good data source for creek and stream names, I stumbled across the Board of Geographic Names data from the U.S. Geological Society. The dataset contains around 2.2 million names covering sixty four classifications.

Rather than just extracting the stream information, I processed all the categories except for wells. The well data was not very interesting — the majority of the entries were just a series of letters and numbers. The result is the Geographic Feature Name Generator.

The feature classes include Airport, Arch, Area, Arroyo, Bar, Basin, Bay, Beach, Bench, Bend, Bridge, Building, Canal, Cape, Cemetery, Census, Channel, Church, Civil, Cliff, Crater, Crossing, Dam, Falls, Flat, Forest, Gap, Glacier, Gut, Harbor, Hospital, Island, Isthmus, Lake, Lava, Levee, Locale, Military, Mine, Oilfield, Park, Pillar, Plain, Populated, Place, Post, Office, Range, Rapids, Reserve, Reservoir, Ridge, School, Sea, Slope, Spring, Stream, Summit, Swamp, Tower, Trail, Tunnel, Valley, and Woods.
